BOCES #1, Board of Cooperative Educational Services
From the arts to technology, Monroe #1 BOCES coordinated, innovative educational enrichment programs help students reach beyond classroom walls. The strength of BOCES lies in how cost-savings programs are cooperatively provided, especially for students at risk, special needs students with disabilities, students who need help meeting the learning standards, students preparing for careers, and adults in the community who are improving their skills. Resources are combined, when and where they are needed, to provide creative solutions that help students stay in school and ultimately achieve success.
Monroe #1 BOCES offers a full range of special education programs (from special schools to support for full inclusion in regular school settings) annually to more than 1,300 students, preschool to age 21, from approximately 48 school districts in western New York. Students’ challenges may include cognitive, physical or learning disabilities, speech-language impairment, autism, emotional disabilities, attention deficit disorder, other health impairments, or a combination of these. BOCES 1 intervention often begins shortly after birth. Monroe #1 BOCES Special Education offers individualized programs serving high-needs students.
