Cameron Community Ministries
After School Program:
The Cameron After School Program offers a safe place to be after school for elementary school children who attend School #30. The primary emphasis is on homework completion, tutoring, and positive behavior and conflict resolution.
Children use the Accelerated Reader software to identify and improve their reading level. We also offer snacks, field trips, Arts & Crafts, playtime, exercise, many special events and computer instruction.
The program runs Monday through Friday immediately after school until 5:00pm. At 5pm the children are offered a meal through Kids Cafe sponsored by Foodlink.
Summer Safe Haven Program: Cameron's Summer Safe Haven program provides a safe, fun place for kids during the summer months. We go on many field trips, including the Strong Museum of Play, the Beach and Seabreeze. We hold Cheer, Basketball, Cooking, Arts and Crafts, and Dance Clubs. We also have our brand new playground to use! We play board games, Wii & Wii Fit, Game Cube, games on the computers and do Arts & Crafts. There is also a continuous emphasis on reading and academics.
Hot Lunch Program: Cameron serves a free hot meal to the public six days a week, Monday-Saturday. In 2012, our Hot Lunch program served over 56,000 meals to the community. The meals are filling and nutritious, with fresh fruit, vegetables and dessert items.
In addition to daily meals, we provide our guests with access to other services such as free books, free bread and emergency food, Veteran’s Outreach counselors, Food Stamp information, social work and prostitution out reach counselors, Aids/HIV testing, and other community services. People receiving public assistance have the opportunity to work with us, gaining work skills and positive references for job applications.
Kids Cafe is more than just a nutritious snack. The food is just one in a long list of positive benefits taken from the program. Kids cafe participants have reported getting better grades in school, having more energy while experiencing less fatigue, and even the increased ability to concentrate. The presence of a friendly, helping staff also gives the kids someone to come to if they're ever in need. Cameron Ministries serves a free meal to children under 18 every weekday from 5-5:30 pm.
Sunday Celebrations: Cameron hosts a free Sunday dinner each week to members of the community. These dinners are traditionally organized and lead by various church groups from the Rochester area. Groups who volunteer to host a Sunday Celebration meal design the menu, prepare the food and serve the meal using Cameron's facilities. Sunday celebration meals also include a brief worship service, created by the church who is hosting the meal. Sunday Celebrations offer a means for church and community groups to assist in combating hunger in the Rochester area, as well as continue in their own ministries through our agency.
